The first step is to sit down with us and make a list of features for the home, and to decide which spaces are most important to you. Where do you spend most of your time? Is outdoor living space a priority? What types of materials and finishes do you like? Your home should be customized to your needs.
Secondly, a visit to the site lets us see the lay of the land, sun angle, and decide where on the property to place the house. Site measurements, pictures and soil samples are taken for the development of site and landscaping plans, ensuring your building matches the land it sits on. The site photos are developed into a project scrapbook to promote client involvement and awareness.
Next we sketch out the something called a ‘bubble diagram’. This is a rough floor plan to show the rooms in the house and how they relate to each other. This process provides the client with the most efficient and functional space and provides each home with an individual character.
The diagrams are used to develop a basic floor plan and 3D model to give the client a true sense of the space and an idea of how the colors and textures will look. We can do 3D walk throughs or snap photos from any angle or change colors and textures with the click of a mouse button. Photos can be sent through e-mail for instant feedback.
Final design drawings are then developed from the model. We do all our drafts by traditional hand method using large A1 sheets. The scrapbook is compiled including a maintenance schedule, owner’s manual and thank you letter. Clients also have the option to have a scale model of their home built from balsa wood and stained to the color of their choice.
